In 1948, there was a general reorganization and unit name change, leading to the Southern Rhodesia Artillery becoming the new designation for the former Light Battery. In 1963, the SRA established a depot at Cranborne Barracks in Salisbury. In 1976, the Corps of Artillery was created, with the 1 Field Regiment RhA as the main regular battery unit. The 1 Field Regt was stationed along the Zambia and Mozambique borders, equipped with Mark III 25 pounders, 105mm and 155mm howitzers for defensive purposes. The regiment's soldiers were trained in both artillery and infantry roles, often being deployed in the latter. The Southern Rhodesia Artillery wore a khaki slouch hat in the field and a blue and red forage cap for daily wear. A smaller badge was adopted for wear at this time and was a direct copy of the Royal Artillery "field gun badge" with the inscription “Southern Rhodesia Artillery”. This badge was introduced between 1947-1948 and was worn until 1980.
