Original First World War Period Imperial German Schaumburg-Lippe Parade Mounted Medal Bar Ordensspange. This Medal Bar features; • a 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, or EK2) • Schaumburg-Lippe Loyal Service Cross 2nd Class with Combatant Ribbon. • Prussian Merit Cross for War Aid • Hindenburg Cross with Swords.
The Schaumburg-Lippe Loyal Service Cross is a Gilt bronze Greek style cross with out-turned ends to the arms; the face with the crowned cipher of Prince Adolph centrally, the upper, left, right and lower arms inscribed ‘FÜR’, ‘TREUE’, ‘DIENSTE’, ‘1914’ respectively; the reverse plain; very slight surface wear; on original parade mounted ribbon for combatants. The Cross was instituted by Prince Adolph II on 18 November 1914 and was based on the Cross founded by his grandfather, Prince Adolph Georg for the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. It was the main military award of the small Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe during World War I. The population of Schaumburg-Lippe was less than 50,000 and the Cross is thus relatively rare. A good example.
