Original World War Two November 1944 Dated US Army Corps of Engineers Wrist Compass manufactured by Superior Magneto Corporation with Original Leather Wristband.
Original WWII issued wrist compass as used by Airborne troops and Engineers on D-Day. This fully functional example is in very good condition and nicely marked on the reverse: CORPS OF ENGINEERS U.S. ARMY MANUFACTURED BY SUPERIOR MAGNETO CORP. L.I. CITY N.Y. U.S.A The side is marked with the date: 11-44 denoting a November 1944 manufacturing date. This compass, officially known as “Compass, Wrist, Liquid-filled,” was manufactured by two companies: Superior Magneto and Taylor. It was commonly worn on the wrist, but also over the sleeve, shoulder loops, webbing, or at the ankle over jump boots. Unlike the lensatic compass or marching compass, which were typically reserved for officers, NCOs, or men on special missions, wrist compasses were used by both officers and enlisted men. This example features a correct leather early war issue wristband that has some light stains and wear from storage and age. The compass itself is fully functional, with the needle pointing north and the case capable of turning. Although the liquid-filled feature has been removed, the crystal remains clear with two barely noticeable cracks. Overall, the compass is in excellent condition. These compasses have become increasingly scarce on the market over the past decade.
