The 199th Infantry Brigade played a significant role in Vietnam War combat operations. Interestingly, the brigade's lineage can be traced back to its activation on June 24, 1921, when it joined the 100th Division in Huntington, West Virginia, as part of the Organized Reserves. The unit was later converted and renamed as the 100th Reconnaissance Troop, 100th Infantry Division, on February 23, 1942. It then underwent reorganization as the 100th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, before entering active service on November 15, 1942.
