Original Gulf War - Iraq War OIF Iraqi M80 Helmet with original 1990’s captured Kuwaiti camouflage net and remnants of a West German net. Featuring Arabic writing inside as well as some oil stains. Very nice and honest example of a USGI Captured Bring-Back Piece from the Global War on Terror period.
The Gulf War was a conflict between Iraq and a coalition of 42 countries, primarily led by the United States. It involved two main phases: Operation Desert Shield, which focused on military buildup from August 1990 to January 1991, and Operation Desert Storm, which started with an aerial bombing campaign on January 17, 1991 and ended with the liberation of Kuwait on February 28, 1991, led by the United States. On August 2nd, 1990, Iraq, led by Saddam Hussein, invaded Kuwait and took control of the country within 48 hours. The main reasons for the invasion were disputes over Kuwait's alleged slant drilling in Iraq's Rumaila oil field and Kuwait's refusal to cancel Iraq's large debt from the Iran-Iraq War. After occupying Kuwait and establishing a puppet government called the Republic of Kuwait, Iraq divided Kuwait's territory into two parts: the north, now called the Saddamiyat al-Mitla' District, which was incorporated into Iraq's Basra Governorate, and the south, now known as the Kuwait Governorate, which became Iraq's 19th governorate.
The Iraq War (Arabic: حرب العراق) also known as the Second Gulf War, was a prolonged conflict in Iraq from 2003 to 2011. It was initiated by a coalition led by the United States, resulting in the dethronement of the Ba'athist government led by Saddam Hussein. The conflict continued as insurgents rebelled against coalition forces and the newly formed Iraqi government. The withdrawal of US forces was officially announced in 2011. However, in 2014, the US resumed involvement in Iraq by leading a new coalition through Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, as the conflict developed into the ongoing insurgency by the Islamic State.
