The 10th (North Otago Rifles) Regiment was formed in 1911 from Volunteer units in Oamaru and smaller towns in South Otago.
The Southern Cross constellation shown on the badge refers to New Zealand’s location in the southern hemisphere. The Crown signifies loyalty to the monarch and the fern leaves symbolise New Zealand.
The regiment's Latin motto 'Pro Patria' means‘For country’.
The design of this badge was approved by Lt.-General Godley on 18 July 1911.
