Original World War Two German Hitler Youth Summer Cap with Enameled HJ Diamond.
A very well-preserved HJ summer cap, this was known as a HJ youth overseas cap or Allgemeine jugend Sommer-Mütze (General HJ summer cap). Constructed of light brown cotton twill. The crown of the cap is fully lined with red piping. The interior features a complete gold/tan rayon blend liner, bearing a black ink size stamp of “54”. The HJ enameled diamond on the front is RZM maker marked as well and is by maker M1/34, which stands for maker Karl Wurster from Markneukirchen.
Originally introduced in January of 1936, and designated a "Lagermütze" (Camp-cap), this designation was changed to "Sommer-Mütze" (Summer-Cap) later the same year. On introduction, the cap had both the national eagle and swastika insignia and the HJ diamond, and only came with red piping. In 1937 white piping was introduced for personnel of the NPEA, "Nationalpolitische Erziehunganstalt" (National-political Educational-establishment), and in April of 1938 six more branches of service piping were introduced. After 1939, and certainly by 1941, the national eagle and swastika were eliminated from wear.
