I’m Original World War Two German Kriegsmarine Engine Personnel Leather Jacket.

Tag partially present, date of 1942 still visible as well as a size “46” and “IX” stamps. The leather uniform worn by Engine Personnel (Maschinenpersonel) of vessels with oil-fueled steam engines or motors consisted of black, grey, or rarely; dark brown leather jackets and trousers. Although primarily associated with U-Boat crews, these uniforms were also used by some personnel aboard surface vessels and it’s not rare to see them in wear aboard the Minensuchboot (Minesweeper), Schnellboot (PT Boat), and more.

These uniforms were designed during the Kaiserliche Marine era and didn’t change much over the years into the Kriegsmarine era of the German Navy. The design of these uniforms was to give protection against dirt and fuel in engine rooms and even some protection from small fires. The jacket is completely lined with dark grayish - black woolen blanket fabric, thus also protecting against the cold weather in the North Atlantic Seas during Watch duties aboard a U-Boot. The jacket features five gold colored 2.5cm Kriegsmarine Anchor Insignia buttons that close up to the neck where a metal clasp sits to connect the collar. There is two waist pockets on the outside, one chest pocket outside, and one breast pocket inside as well. Some blueish staining on right (wearers) sleeve, more than likely can be removed but that is up to the buyer. Overall great condition with originally applied buttons.
